Metadata extraction with Apache Tika

Июль 14th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Apache, modules

At  Hippo  I work with/for customers that have quite a lot of content. The projects I work on have content in the range of 5.000 to 500.000 document gathered in one content repository. This can be just textual content, but most of the time this is a variety of different content types. You might think of images, PDFs and Microsoft office document formats. By default Apache JackRabbit , the layer underneath Hippo Repository , can indexes this kind of content by using extractors, so that the information can be found within the  Hippo CMS 7  search or from any application connected to the Hippo Repository which is performing a search on the content repository. Being able to search on content found within a file is interesting, but there is so much more that you can do with this kind of information.

Июль 13th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Apache, modules

If your Accelerator was built using the new pkgsrc-based template (April 2008 and on), you do not need to built either of these packages (OpenSSL, PCRE, Nginx). You can build your own, but you’d need to use a different prefix than /opt/local, which is used by the new template layout.

A multi-platform buildout for development and production deployment on Unix and Windows

Previously, I wrote about how to use a single buildout to manage the various aspects of a production server. That buildout, however, only works on Unix platforms. It builds nginx, varnish and haproxy, all of which are Unix-only (there is an nginx build for Windows, but it won’t work as an xdv XSLT proxy). For my current project, I also need to deploy to Windows Server 2003. And I need to support both production and development environments. Enter the Über-Buildout Mark II.
